It’s totally off the beaten track and very rarely visited by tourists. We will take you to Pokljuka plateau (1200- 1300m), 20km long and 20km wide plateau which is only a 30 min drive from Bled. In just one day you can see and experience:
- the great mixture of beautiful nature
- alpine architecture
- traditional food/drink tasting
We are giving you the full package. Traditional alpine food you will taste: soured milk, sausage, traditional cheese, minced lard,… and some herbal liquors that heal all the diseases!!
There we will take you to see some really amazing alpine meadows:
- Zajamniki – 1257m
Picturesque alpine pasture land of Zajamniki is situated on the western edge of Pokljuka plateau and due to amazing views on the surrounding mountains and Lake Bohinj Zajamniki is called “the balcony of Pokljuka”. It’s famous for its positioning of the herdsman’s huts that are forming a “mountain street”. The pasture land is under monumental protection and is one of the best preserved in Slovenia. There are around 80 herdsman huts. Here we meet the only herdsman that still practices this way of life and goads his cows to the pastures. Here we try the 100% homemade traditional food of the area and we can also taste some herbal liquor he prepares. It tastes good!
- Uskovnica – 1138m
Uskovnica is another alpine meadow and pasture we are about to visit. It’s one of the biggest on the Pokljuka plateau and also offers you some amazing views of the surrounding mountains. It’s a good starting point to ascend Mt. Triglav and other peaks of the Julian Alps. It’s famous for its wooden chapel of “Marija the queen of peace” that has been rebuilt after being burned down completely.
- Javorniška planina – 1292m
On Javorniška planina you can still see some of the old herdsmen huts that uniquely represent alpine architecture. Most of the huts are wooden, except the cheese dairy. In summer you will see that the cows are occupying the meadows of Javorniška planina and in winter this place is very popular with cross country skiers. We will admire alpine architecture as well as beautiful views of the highest peaks of Julian Alps.
- Planina Praprotnica and its energetic spot – 1200m
Planina Praprotnica is famous for two reasons. Our hosts that are still live on the plateau for most of the year have rare autochthonous species of cow called “Ciza” and there are only 42 of them still left. Our hosts will tell stories about life on the plateau and about changes they noticed in the years living here. Here we’ll taste some of their specialities and you will love it! The second reason is the energetic spots, discovered some years ago. There are 28 energetic spots, where very high energetic activity has been measured, and each one for a different problem. We’ll spend some time here and try to soak up the good energy!
